Dutch PM told to get off his bicycle

PARIS: Dutch caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s personal guard contingent has been beefed up amid concerns he might be the target of attack or abduction by organised crime units, De Telegraaf newspaper reported yesterday.

The measure was taken after the “spotters” hired by criminal organisations to prepare the ground for an attack or abduction – were seen around Rutte, the newspaper reported, adding that these “spotters” are affiliated with the Moroccan mafia. Rutte often uses a bicycle while moving around The Hague without personal protection. But now trained officers of the Royal and Diplomatic Protection Service will ensure his security.
